On Wednesday night around 9:30 I was abruptly awakened from a wonderful dream where there were no political ads or war or pestilence, 30 point bucks are everywhere, and because your car will run on beer, gas is $.29 a gallon.
But, it would seem, if the washer won’t spin, it’s appropriate to wake up the Maytag Repairman. (In the case the Kenmore repairman, Buick repairman, Woodcutter, Cabinet Maker, Green bean canner, Snow plow guy and………..” Keeper of the Calm”)
It would also seem that the best alternative to waking me up when a load of towels won’t spin at 9:30 PM, is getting a new washing machine. And…..I understand that our washer is nearly 20 years old. And……if you don’t want to spend part of our emergency fund on a new washer at 9:30PM, you’d better get up and figure it out, lest the towels don’t make it into the dryer. (We only have 2 towels and it’s critical that they are fresh for the morning showers……..)
Sure enough, the washer won’t spin. After getting my bearings, it becomes apparent that the little “switchy” thing that keeps the machine from spinning when the lid is open has failed. (It clearly must have been a male switch since it’s a failure) By the way, the appropriate test for this malady is to stick a standard screwdriver down in that little hole and see if the spin cycle will engage.
And it does……………… So…….I get a rubber band, wrap it around the switch to close the circuit and WAHLAAAH, the washing machine starts to spin.
Now………….. If you call “Lady Kenmore”, and can actually get to speak to somebody, it takes about two weeks to get them to come out and look at your washing machine. Ron’s Repair got it going in about 5 minutes. I think that’s pretty fair service.
All is well until………………………………… I tell the one who woke me that it would seem equally fair to awaken her when I need a button sewed on my shirt at 5AM before I can go to work.
I’m off to the dog house now……………………..
